There are few occasions in life that are more satisfying than viewing a good piece of art. Indeed, art is far from something that merely pleases the eye; it nourishes our souls, holds up a mirror to reality, and most importantly, translates expressions of beauty we have no words for. We can go on and on about canvas quality, luster, color, texture and artistry, but seriously, what better way to appreciate art than to look at it yourself?
 
 
 
What is art appreciation?Many people get intimidated when it comes to art appreciation. They begin to give excuses like they don’t draw or have poor colour sense so they cannot appreciate art! That is really sad cause they are denying themselves the opportunity to enjoy an activity that can move the spirit, stir the soul and instill a wonder of beauty.The fact is that art appreciation is separate from art creation. You may not be aware of it but if you are doing anything of value, you are an artist in your own right.Another analogy is to liken art appreciation to music appreciation. We may have different tastes in music but we all like music of some sort. The more we listen, the more our musical senses are heightened. Appreciating art is no different. The more we look at art, the more we enjoy it and find meaning in it.Why is Art Appreciation not as popular as it should be?

It is a tragedy that whilst so many people turn to music to bring aesthetic pleasure to their souls, so few turn to art. Perhaps one factor has to do with accessibility. Whilst good music is readily reproducible and hence available thanks to digital technology, good art is unfortunately not so easily reproducible or accessible. Viewing an original painting or sculpture is still the best way to truly capture the joy and pleasure of viewing a great art piece.
