Description: What are our pregnancy rates?
First we need to define and understand the various pregnancy rates published in Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) data statistics.
A clinical pregnancy is any pregnancy except that diagnosed only by measuring levels of human chorionic gonadotropin. It includes viable pregnancies of at least 20 weeks, miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies.
A viable pregnancy is one that reaches at least 20 weeks gestation and includes live births as well as stillbirths.
A live birth is the birth of an infant with signs of life after pregnancy of at least 20 weeks gestation.
Most data on ART pregnancies use three different stages of the treatment cycle to show the pregnancy rates. They are therefore, reported as pregnancies per treatment started, pregnancies per egg collection and pregnancies per embryo transfers.
