| SLF Green Maid Agency Currently I have four operational agency outlets in various parts of Singapore, with an increasing customer base. My aim is be selective of product (domestic workers here..), only give the best I can find and continuously improve on services. Every day I myself am leaning and I am improving. Domestic Workers I always like to "hands-on and do it myself, don't just hear and rely on other people’s input". What I meant by that, in the context of domestic worker, don't just hear from the training center that this lot of workers are good, I would plan and fly over to see them face-to-face, talk to them, “stress” them etc..,then I will grade them accordingly, higher Situational Awareness (SA), able to articulate, the way she smile, sit, posture, etc…in doing so, I am being selective and provide a layer of screening before I bring in the any workers. Maids who are below my expectation, in term of spoken language, build, IQ, etc, I do not bring them in from the onset. To be honest, I wouldn't say that there is lousy maid or there is good maid. I would put it differently, like they are fast learner or they are slower learner, there are maids with much higher situational awareness (SA) and there are some with lower situational awareness. A slow learner can improve overtime when given the opportunity, but a maid with a lower situational awareness is quite unlikely to improve over a short period of time. Each has its pro and con. For example, simpler task, like taking care of only a bedridden elderly and without other adult a home, does not need a maid with higher SA, a moderate maid should be able to take up the challenge easily. You may think, of cause you want a maid with the highest SA that you can find, because you are paying the same among of salary....You are right to a certain extent, but the negative side of a maid with a higher SA is that if a employer cannot occupy or control her properly, problem may arises. A maid with higher SA tends to learn faster and finish an assigned task faster; she may have too much free time. Very frequently you can hear your neighbor, friends, relatives or you yourself may have encounter maids talking through phone too frequently, asking for more day-off, talking to neighbor etc...this is a sign that the maid is too free or boring and therefore..... What I meant is that, not necessary that maid with a higher SA is better. It all depends on scenario. A family with 3 young children, a new born baby, needs to cook, walk children to school etc, need a maid with much higher SA to multi-task.
Services Our job as an agency is to best match the right maid to the right employer. I always iterate to all my sale staff that do not behave like a “postman” and stay neutral when employers are selecting workers, he/she need to value-add to do the recommendation to customers(Although there are some customer quite persistent of their own selection, so be it…). Before a customer walk into my office, my sales staff should know, in the back of their mind, a competence maid for taking care of elderly, new born, cooking etc.. and to provide the right level of recommendation when needed. Very importantly, I told my staffs that he/she should not recommend a maid that he/she wouldn’t like, if I give them a choice of choosing a maid for themselves. This is because I fully understand the “pain” incurred if customer brought home an unsuitable maid. He/she will complaint, throw angry at the maid, my sale staff etc. The way I do business is that I want to minimize such wrong matching to near zero. Please take note that I use the word minimize, I cannot use “eliminate” totally because I am dealing with human and that human is never perfect. I cannot guarantee that a particular maid will work perfectly in somebody’s house... Although I may have done all I can at the ground level, unfortunate cases of maids don’t work out do still happen..but to a very minimum. Want to provide good services, good and professional staff is unavoidable. That is why I am also continuously educating, training, refreshing and sharing with all my staffs on the "Dos and Don't" and be professional in all our processes. Happy shopping for maids and best wishes. Director Mr Yeo Tong Poh 18 Aug 09 |
