The Leng Kee Dance Troupe which has its home at the Leng Kee Community Centre aims to bring the passion and fun of dance to both participants and audiences. Artistically, the troupe aims to explore the genre of Chinese dance in contemporary ways while retaining the traditional elements. We are teaching our students modern dance and chinese dances.
The troupe gave its first public performance at the Victoria Theatre in 1993 in a production called Leng Kee Expressions. Since then, it has continued to produce biennial performances of the Leng Kee Expressions in the genres of Chinese and Modern dance.
To date, the troupe has appeared over 100 performances. These were at numerous community arts events organized by the National Arts Council and the People’s Association as well as Chingay Parades. The troupe has also performed in Indonesia in 2000 at the Asian Modern Dance Interaction 3, in Thailand for the 16th Cultural Dance Festival and in Japan at the ASEAN Tourism Festival. They are also the winners of the 1999 National Chinese Dance Competition and the 2002 Chinese Culture Constituency Dance Competition.
