Shihan Ishikawa holds a 8th Dan black belt in Shitoryu karate (WKF certified) and has practised the art for over 40 years, starting at the age of 17 in Osaka, Japan. Under the invitation of the Singapore Karate-Do Association (SKA) at that time, Shihan Ishikawa was recommended by Kenzo Mabuni (younger brother of Kenei Mabuni), to be the Chief Instructor of SKA in Singapore. Shihan Ishikawa was then 25 years old when he came to Singapore in December 1968. Till today, Shihan Ishikawa still teaches karate in Singapore. Shihan Ishikawa founded the Ken Yu Kai Karate Association (Member of the Singapore Karate-Do Federation) in 19 September 1991 to promote the art of karate in Singapore. He holds the appointment of Chief Instructor of the association. Shihan Ishikawa is also the Chief Instructor of the National University of Singapore Karate Sub-Club, the Nanyang Technological University Karate Club, and the Japanese Association of Singapore.
