The First Tee of Singapore is operated by JAG Foundation Ltd, a non-profit organization and a registered charity in Singapore. It was established in 2003 and began programming in mid-2003. The objective of The First Tee is to expose youth in Singapore to golf in an affordable and fun way whilst teaching them positive life skills.
Lessons are held either in schools or at driving ranges, and typically consist of two sections--'Golf Skills' and 'Life Skills'. During each session, golf professionals and volunteers work side-by-side to educate children in a holistic manner with special SNAG golf equipment and Life Skills educational tools. Additional activities like Mini-Golf Tournaments or overseas Leadership Camps sponsored by The First Tee Home Office serve to develop participants' golf and life skills further.
Each child in The First Tee program receives instruction in both Golf Skills and Life Skills. In the 1.5 to 2 hours class, life skills and golf skills are integrated seamlessly in practice stations as well as on the short course. As they learn about golf, the relevant Life Skills are emphasized and imparted to the children.
Initial training is done at school fields as part of the Ministry of Education Co-Curricular Activity, Golf. The children learn the basics of the golf rules, golf grip, correct ball position, half and full swing and important short game skills such as chipping and putting.
Through our school outreach programme, more children are able to enjoy the game and learn positive values through golf. We are also affiliated to established driving ranges and golf courses which can offer special rates for The First Tee's usage.
