This workshop will equip parents with the knowledge and understanding of the various mathematical concepts taught that are taught in our local preschools, allow parents to understand how young children learn maths and be able to use games and common materials to create fun and interactive maths games to help children learn maths.
The speaker for this workshop is Mr Philip Koh, who is an associate trainer with various training institutes in early childhood with more than eight years of practical experience teaching and working directly with children, parents and teachers.
Philip elaborated on the role of the parents' as follows:
- Provide a stimulating environment and opportunities to explore many different relationships
- Commit the time to explore, play, and learn with children
- Understand their needs and model mathematical behavior
- Incorporate math into everyday activities
- Communicate positively
- Ask questions to encourage children to problem-solve
- Make materials available
- Invest in commercial games (if you can)
- Create games using common materials that you can find at home
- Play with children
There are simply so many games we can play with our children, just don't forget to set aside some time to have fun playing with your child!
