Celebrating World Animal's Day
88DB chronicles SPCA 60th anniversary celebrations

RAIN or Shine, clear weather or not, SPCA’s 60th anniversary celebrations at the East Coast Park pushed through last 7 October — which also happened to be World Animal Day.Not even the threat of what seemed like a giant twister stalled the event. As stalls were being set up and dogs were beginning to adjust to the frenzy of activities, a waterspout over the East Coast beach appeared at around 1 pm and drew crowds for a rare photo opportunity. It lasted for about 15 minutes, followed by dark clouds and a thunderstorm.

The rain crashed mercilessly on the flimsy tent set up to house SPCA’s event.A few valiant guys held on to the poles to prevent it from being blown away like a few of the camping tents nearby.

Pet owners began bringing their beloved canines and rabbits out into the open again after an hour, as bright sunshine saved the event from being cancelled.

Happy Animal Day ...at East Coast Park

SPCA carried on with the event to spread the message of being kind to animals just as they have done for six decades.
Being the only animal welfare organisation that accepts every single unwanted or abandoned animal, SPCA is often left with the awful task of putting animals to sleep because they are unable to house all the animals in their cramped premises.

Being the only animal welfare organisation that accepts every single unwanted or abandoned animal, SPCA is often left with the awful task of putting animals to sleep because they are unable to house all the animals in their cramped premises.

So through events like these, SPCA aims to educate the public on being a responsible pet owner, and to discourage cruelty towards all animals. Booths were set up to sell SPCA merchandise, dog food (which included a bakery selling biscuits and cookies for canines), and also to give pet related advises. Co-sponsor National Parks Board also made its presence worthy by sending out crucial messages about releasing and bringing pets into nature reserves.

Not forgetting the adorable stars of the event, a best kept pet competition was held as well. Stay tuned for a full gallery of the cutest pooches of the event.
