Always try on shoes
Sizes do vary among brands and manufacturers, so don’t approach a shoe sale with a see, like, buy kind of attitude. No matter how much the packed store and jostling people put you off trying on the shoe, do it. Or you’ll end up with a pair you can’t even fit in.
Try on both shoes
Few people aren’t aware that both their feet are not of the exact same size, so ensure you put on both shoes just to be sure. Even if the salesgirl gives you look when you ask to try on the other shoe as well, remember it’s your money you’re spending. Even if it’s 50% off.

(Try to) Walk around a little bit in them
Michelle Ang, the proud owner of 130 pairs of shoes advised, “When you walk around the shop with the new shoes, don’t ignore tiny stitches because they are guaranteed to gnaw at your feet when you wear the shoes out for longer hours.”
However, since it’s a sale, we’d forgive you if you did ignore the stitches and buy some shoe padding at Daiso later.
Bring your BF along
And I mean best, not boyfriend. It’s cruel enough for him to watch you empty his wallet on something you don’t need, so don’t drag him to a crowded place, make him hold your bag, and watch you buy something you don’t need.
On the other hand, a girl friend can stop you from buying butt ugly shoes (crowds can often distort vision), and even lend a shoulder for support when you try on a shoe.
Wear covered flats
In case you have not been to a sale in Singapore, people often get nasty, annoyed, and rude. So to protect your toes from getting stomped on, cover them with ballet pumps, which are also easy to slip on and off while trying on shoes.
Arm yourself with the auntie mindset
You don’t need to bring an umbrella to jab everyone in your way to survive a shoe sale, but you can enjoy a shoe sale better with a bit of the heck care attitude. Notice how aunties ignore all the pushing and nudging when getting on the MRT? If you could hold yourself back from getting annoyed at every single person who stepped on your feet or accidentally knocked into you, the shoe sale would be no problem
