Zouk’s quarterly flea market “Flea & Easy” took a different spin last Sunday with a fashion elite edition (along with Singapore Fashion Festival ‘08), where all the stall vendors belonged to the fashion industry. Amongst which are stalls owned by Cleo, Harper’s Bazaar, Channel 8 actor Chen Han Wei, modelactress Jade Seah, and radio DJs Shan Wee and Rosalyn Lee.
Within an hour, Zouk was packed with usually glamourous fashionistas jostling and squeezing their way through the crowd. A small queue gradually formed at the entrance as people stopped to look at stalls, holding up traffic behind them. After straining our necks and grumbling, my companion and I managed to step into the flea market, only to be stunned by the sight before us.

Air-tight packaging at Zouk’s Flea & Easy
Those on the lower floor were packed like sardines, barely inches from each other’s faces, while the upper floor stood stagnant, as people moving in opposite directions got stuck. As we maneuvered our way at 2 km/h, there wasn’t any room for us to browse the stalls without being swept away by the oncoming crowd. So after shuffling around for less than 15 minutes, we decided to give up.
As we contemplated the odds of us actually managing to get any good buys, we noticed many shoppers stumbling out of the exit catching their breath, with various plastic bags in both hands, bags so filled it couldn’t be zipped up, and big wide smiles. It was proof that the early birds got to catch the juiciest worms.
So within an hour-and-a-half after Zouk’s flea market commenced, here are some shoppers with their best buy of the afternoon.
