For 10 days in March, 107 underground (and underrated) artists from all over the world will be performing at seven venues around The Esplanade.

Mosaic Music Festival’s fourth edition kicks off on March 7 with silky crooner Harry Connick Jr., who will be singing tracks from his latest album Oh, My Nola. I’m sure yuppies would be looking forward to watch this triple Grammy Award-winner put on a Sinatra groove to his big-band-style pieces.

The festival has always been heavy on jazz and world music. This time around, it is actually bringing in indie artists like Broken Social Scene, Sondre Lerche, Múm, and Fujiya & Miyagi (whose tickets are selling as fast as MacDonald’s Hello Kitty stuff toys). They’ve already been written down in my to do list.

In the previous years, Mosaic brought in artists like José González, Kings of Convenience, and Yo La Tengo, all of which I missed because I wasn’t cool enough to know about them yet.

This year’s must-catch is Mosaic’s first Artist-in-Residence, Kurt Elling, who is known for his rich baritone voice spanning four octaves.

Aside from his solo concert, Elling would be personally conducting vocal workshops for both the public as well as local talents. Elling’s workshop session is part of Mosaic’s newest installation, “In The House FM,” held at the Singapore Art Café.

This series of informal and intimate chat sessions allow music enthusiasts a rare insight into the musical experiences of various Mosaic artists, infused with impromptu acoustic performances by both the hosts and their guests.

“In The House FM” sessions are (prepare for enthusiastic cheers) free of charge, and also focuses on Asian artists, featuring more than 50 local and regional artists like Daphane Khoo, Al McKay, and Lampano Alley.

George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic is also another noteworthy act fronted by the ‘President of Funk’, the man who has driven audiences wild for almost four decades. Let down your hair, or technicoloured dreadlocks, and go crazy with this no intermission, three-hour long Funkadelic performance. To that, you can say, “Whoah.”

88DB.com has been exclusively invited to Sondre Lerche’s 11 th hour concert to be held on March 14, so be sure to bookmark 88DB Lifestyle to get a low down on the concert.

Or simply visit Mosaic Music Festival’s website at www.mosaicmusicfestival.com or call 6348 5555 to book a seat for yourself and bask in Sondre Lerche’s melancholic voice reciting wry lyrics amongst sweet melodies.
