A common favourite is Busy Ben ($8) , whose name was creatively conjured up by the marketing executives of Thos S.B. This dish juxtaposes the Western's pizza culture with Asian spices. Served on a slice of garlic pita, the reddish tandoori chicken with mint chutney and apple raita atop makes Busy Ben appear like a pizza, but one is pleasantly surprised to discover it as a cold dish. The addition of Indian spices paired with cream and yogurt gives the sandwich a strong distinct flavour that arouses the taste buds, foreign yet familiar.
Be overwhelmed by a sense of nostalgia with Tammy & Tabitha – Two Peas in a Pod ($8). The classic hotdog buns swing back in style right within this café, but with a slight twist. Soft and buttery hotdog buns buttered lightly clasp a sausage made from chicken thigh and mozzarella cheese in between – all home-made and a unique recipe of Thos S.B. All sandwiches are served with a choice of creamy potato salad, crumbly causcous or baked potatoes and garden salad.
Visitors to Singapore craving for a taste of classic Western can feel youthful once again with Party Animal Paulette ($8). Pairing the tanginess of pineapple with the saltiness of smoked ham between a buttered croissant, this heartwarming sandwich brings “home” a little closer for the expatriates.
The Fisherman's Pot Pie ($8.50) and Thos S.B Pie ($5.50) offer alternatives to sandwiches. Cheese lovers will be delighted to opt for the stew of scallops, prawns and crabstick meat hidden in finely mashed potatoes and cheese in the oven-baked pot pie. Golden brown cheese crust masks the smooth mashed potatoes and chewy tender seafood hidden within.
For the quick bite or budget concerned, Thos S.B Pie satisfies the empty stomach with a mere $5.50 for a puff of creamy chicken marinated with herbs.
